My approach to counseling is an integrative relational one, tailoring sessions to suit the individual needs and personalities of clients. My desire is to provide a sensitive and safe space where clients feel accepted and listened to, providing a springboard for personal growth and change.
I take a holistic approach to counseling, reflecting on the client’s history where relevant, and their current circumstances, taking into account each person’s need for security, significance and self-worth.
I am experienced across a wide range of issues, including stress ‘burn-out’, anxiety, depression, bereavement and loss. I also work in an agency with a family therapy team, and with individuals who have suffered trauma, or have mental health diagnoses such as bipolar. I am committed to extending my skills, and am currently training as a relationship counsellor with Marriagecare.
As well as formal training, my counseling skills draw upon a wealth of life experience, having been a teacher in both the UK and South America, and a development worker in the slums of Paraguay. This has given me valuable insight into cross-cultural issues when working with clients.
